In 2010, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport was put into service within a construction period of 37 months only. With an area of 502,000 m² and a yearly passenger capacity of 34 million, it is the eighth largest passenger terminal in the world. 

Extending the “Dedicated Freight Corridors”

Due to insufficient transport capacities for commodities and industrial goods, India has been investing heavily in the development of the rail network in recent years. An eastern and a western “Dedicated Freight Corridor”, with a total length of 3,360 km, will be built. Both corridors are specially designed for freight traffic. New to the railway construction industry, GMR Group will participate in the construction of the eastern corridor from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal. 

Modern machine fleet with Plasser & Theurer technology 

As a track maintenance contractor, GMR Group has set store by quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness from the very beginning. Therefore, the company has collaborated closely with Plasser India since 2015. The resulting large-scale order includes two PBR 400 ballast distributing and profiling machines with integrated turntable, two Duomatic 08-32 C track tamping machines with integrated sleeper-end consolidator and HRL levelling and alignment laser, one 08-275 3S universal tamping machine with integrated sleeper-end consolidator and HRL levelling and alignment laser, and one DGS 62 N stabilising machine. 

Two SVM 1000 I track laying trains for Plasser India

In addition, GMR Group’s order includes two SVM 1000 I continuous action machines with a total of 45 adapted flat-bed trailers for transporting the sleepers and rails needed for track construction. The machines are equipped with two gantry cranes and clip units each. They are suited for transporting and laying sleepers and rails. The first of the two machines was handed over to the customer in late 2017.
