ÖVG placed the focus on availability and digitisation

The 21st Convention of the Austrian Society for Traffic and Transport Science (ÖVG) was well attended. Around 250 participants, mainly from the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), dealt with the availability of the infrastructure. In rail traffic, Industry 4.0 is also a key topic. The oldest mode of transport needs to catch up.

For an increasing number of operators, three topics have been gaining importance: high availability, long service life and upgrading old machines. Our new after-sales tools, services and offers meet this demand.

The ultimate endurance test

Our environment is changing. E³ is Plasser & Theurer’s answer to it. The innovative technology of the HTW 100 E³ hybrid motor tower car was put to the test in the Climate Wind Tunnel.

Track inspection vehicles in new design

The first two track inspection vehicles featuring our new, modern cabin design will be supplied to Malaysia. Recording the track condition with high precision, the machines support effective track maintenance planning.

Two machines for Swedish newcomer

Infraservice Group Scandinavian AB has evolved to become a successful competitor in the Swedish track construction market within a short time. In March 2017, the young company received its first two Plasser & Theurer machines.

Multipurpose tool for Segeco

On 4 April 2017, Segeco srl, a track maintenance contractor from the north of Italy, was presented with the first Unimat Combi 08-275. Two further machines of this model will follow in 2018.

Successful snow clearing

Right on time for the cold season, the Croatian state railway put new snow clearing vehicles into operation. The machines ensure that rails are cleared from snow more efficiently.

E³ hybrid technology creates new opportunities

Presented at the International Exhibition for Track Technology, iaf, held in Münster in May 2017, the E³ machines are firing enthusiasm. Since 1953, Plasser & Theurer has been a pioneer in the development of new technologies for track laying and maintenance. The E³ technology proves this yet again.

Fast intervention on the overhead line

The Czech railway SŽDC adds three motor tower cars to its machine fleet. The new intervention vehicles for speedy “first aid” operations and regular assembly works on the overhead line system will be used in all regions of the Czech Republic.

SPITZKE expands machine fleet

The USP 4000 SWS ballast distributing and profiling machine and the Unimat 09-4×4/4S universal tamping machine add to SPITZKE’s fleet of track maintenance machines.

Japanese precision

Track possessions on Japanese high-speed lines are short. Tracks are not closed for maintenance works. Rails and sleepers must be exchanged in the shortest possible time. This is why staff, machines, and design engineers must meet particularly high requirements.

APT 1500 RL: via the highway to the work site

The APT 1500 RL is the first flash-butt welding machine in road/rail truck design to be operated in the USA. Presented at the US trade show Railway Interchange in September 2017, the vehicle has been in regular operation since then.

Major contract for India

GMR acquires new machine fleet with Plasser & Theurer technology

GMR Group is among the companies that have contributed decisively to the development of the Indian infrastructure in recent years. Now, the company is entering the railway construction market. From the very beginning, GMR has set store by the performance and high-quality of our machines.

Tour de force

Completed on 1 July 2017, the large-scale project „Ligne à Grande Vitesse Bretagne – Pays de la Loire” demanded a lot from man and machine. Since 2 July 2017, the French TGV runs at travelling speeds of 320 km/h to 350 km/h on the 214 km long high-speed line.

Maximum safety for maintenance works

In July 2017, a new French high-speed line, the LGV Bretagne – Pays de la Loire (LGV BPL), went into service (see also page 38). For the daily operation and regular maintenance of the line, two new Plasser & Theurer vehicles are used: the OBW 100 track motor vehicle for maintaining the track infrastructure, and the MTW 100 motor tower car for works on the overhead line system.

Dynamic stabilisation has become indispensable to sustainable track maintenance. This is all the more important as traffic loads increase. Now, technological refinement brings further improvements for dynamic machines.
