Presented at the International Exhibition for Track Technology, iaf, held in Münster in May 2017, the E³ machines are firing enthusiasm. Since 1953, Plasser & Theurer has been a pioneer in the development of new technologies for track laying and maintenance. The E³ technology proves this yet again.
Every two years, the “Privatbahn Magazin” honours the most interesting innovations in the rail industry. In 2017, the prestigious award honoured the railway industry’s efforts to further increase the climate friendliness, safety, cost-efficiency and comfort of products and to further reduce the noise emitted. The expert jury, consisting of practitioners from railway companies, scientists and board members of “Privatbahn Magazin”, opted for the innovative E³ hybrid drive technology. Innovative achievements in the E³ technology significantly contribute to the ecological operation of the railways. Ultimately, they benefit the climate goals and our ecosystem.
The experiences gained so far show a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions – 27 tons per 100 hours.
Krebs Gleisbau AG is the first contractor to use the new technology. The company operates the Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic E³ in Switzerland.
“In the first six months, we mostly worked during the night. In 58 night-time shifts, we maintained 11,800 m of track and 59,700 m of turnouts”, Klaus Schleider, Krebs GmbH & Co. KG, explains. “The machine is mostly used in populated urban areas in night-time shifts. This is why noise reduction features on the machine are crucial. The experiences gained so far show a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions – 27 tons per 100 hours. In addition, the machine runs far more quietly. Thanks to fuel savings, the complex search for diesel filling stations can be reduced. Operating the machine with electrical energy allows for reducing the operating costs by around 116 EUR per hour.”
