Investing in the future

Plasser & Theurer’s new assembly workshop at the Linz site is nearing completion. With estimated construction costs of more than 60 million euros, it is the largest single investment in Austria in our more than 70-year history. It is also significant for Upper Austria as an industrial location.

The new workshop is already something of a landmark in the Linz industrial area. All devices and equipment are operational, and final preparations for start-up are currently underway.

Plenty of space and 180 workstations

Approximately 12,000 square metres will be available to carry out both final assembly and commissioning of track construction and maintenance machines. There are plans for 15 final assembly stations for machines, each with an area of 8.5 by 30 metres. Three tracks, each 91 metres long, and one 56-metre track are planned for commissioning. The workshop is due to go into full operation in early 2027, and provides 180 jobs, 80 of which will be newly created.

Modern infrastructure for high-tech machines

By building the workshop, we are creating modern infrastructure and sufficient space to build and commission our machines in the best possible way. The new building will also bring production facilities that were previously physically separated closer together again. This shortens transport routes – both for our machines and for our employees.

We offer young people the opportunity to actively participate in shaping sustainable mobility, and thus our future, supporting young talent with various professional development options. We offer more than an apprenticeship position – we offer a perspective.

Investing in young talent

The new workshop is not the company’s only investment. The new apprentice training centre officially opened in September 2025. With an area of around 1,100 m², it can accommodate up to 100 apprentices. The modern infrastructure provides milling and turning machines, welding stations, training workstations with drilling machines, grinders, and other small machines as well as lab benches for mechatronic and electronic engineering apprentices. Furthermore, it has training rooms and CNC programming stations as well as office space for apprentice trainers and staff.

Eight different apprenticeships

We are currently training 71 apprentices (eight of whom are female) in eight different apprenticeship trades and with a guaranteed job. At the beginning of September 2025, we took on 22 new apprentices. In future, Plasser & Theurer aims to train 25 new apprentices per year.

Ongoing investment in modernization

Apart from the new assembly workshop and the training centre, we have already invested more than 30 million euros in modernizing the Linz site over the past few years.
