A new generation for Europe’s tracks

From 22 to 25 September 2026, the rail industry will present its latest innovations for the 15th time at InnoTrans, the international trade fair for transport technology in Berlin. Industry visitors will be able to discover the latest developments on more than 116,000 m² of exhibition space.

Ready for any challenge

The new UnimatExpress series offers planning reliability, regardless of the expected utilization. The potential of this versatile all-rounder has been recognized by companies in various markets.

Assembly-line technology for efficient track renewal in Hungary

The Plasser AssemblyLiner 1020 combines all the maintenance tasks of track renewal in a single, continuous process. Proven technology in a new design increases efficiency, safety, and sustainability on worksites.

Investing in high line availability

Ballast bed cleaning for Europe’s main lines using the RM 900 VBS

Eiffage Infra-Rail GmbH is expanding its fleet with an RM 900 ballast bed cleaning machine for the cost-effective cleaning of the ballast bed under demanding operational conditions. The high-performance machine was delivered in the spring of 2026. Designed for short track possessions on busy lines, it helps to maintain high line availability and minimize disruption to day-to-day operations.

A strong partnership for a strong network

DB InfraGO AG has purchased 13 CatenaryCrafter 15.4 E³ machines, setting new benchmarks in overhead contact line maintenance. This clever three-way partnership between operating company, service ECM, and manufacturer combines vehicle technology, availability, and financing into a package that sets an example for the future.

Building overhead contact lines in Poland

Precision under tension

Fewer track possessions, consistent quality, stable results. In Poland, the Plasser CatenaryLiner 300 is demonstrating how modern machinery is changing the construction of overhead contact lines, and how this is a decisive advantage for infrastructure operators.

Dynamic Track Stabilizer – 50 years of success

The Dynamic Track Stabilizer (DGS) has been delivering greater safety, higher availability, and more efficient operations in track construction and maintenance for half a century. What began as a technological response to reduced track stability after construction and maintenance has since turned into an indispensable standard procedure in modern track work.

Ballast bed cleaning on the alpine metre gauge

With precision through high mountains: the RM 76-SM "Capricorn" ballast cleaning machine of Rhomberg Sersa Rail AG ensures a high-quality ballast bed across the entire Rhaetian Railway network, contributing significantly to safe, efficient, and sustainable railway operations in the Swiss Alps.

Track maintenance in North America

Greater performance through smart technologies

Railway infrastructure in the United States is mostly geared towards freight transport. The rail network is characterized by trains stretching several kilometres and nationwide transport corridors which handle the majority of the country’s freight traffic. Therefore, rail forms the backbone of North American supply chains – and it is precisely this system-critical function that defines the requirements for infrastructure and track maintenance.

Japan at the forefront of automation

Similar to many other countries, Japan is facing the challenges of a rapidly aging society. As the share of older generations increases, so does the number of people retiring in the coming years. The resulting scarcity of skilled staff has become one of the key challenges in the railway industry. To address this development, progressive automation of track maintenance plays a crucial role, helping to ensure consistently high-quality standards.

On track for a fully autonomous track maintenance machine

Rail infrastructure maintenance is about to undergo a revolution. As digitalization advances, modern assistance systems are being used more and more in track construction and maintenance. At iaf 2025, Plasser & Theurer held a live demonstration of a Unimat 09-4x4/4S E³ that tamped a turnout fully autonomously in just a single pass, without any operating staff.

Beyond service

Unlocking machines’ full potential with smart data analysis

We have been building track construction and maintenance machines since the 1950s. Back then, innovation largely meant mechanizing track maintenance. Today, the focus has shifted to digitalizing the individual work steps through assistance systems and services.

Maximizing fleet potential with an original retrofit

Even machines that have been in operation for 30 years can still offer enormous value. At a time when the market is booming, it is sensible to make use of capacity reserves in a fleet. The key to this is the original retrofit from Plasser & Theurer, which can extend a machine’s service life by up to 15 years. The upgrades in this retrofit also make the machine suitable for more demanding requirements.

Reducing the cost of excavating chain wear plates

The conveying channels of ballast bed cleaning machines are subjected to extreme mechanical loads. We now offer the necessary wear parts made from new materials that can significantly reduce life cycle costs. Together with our sets for wear plates, this can unlock new economic options.

From patrol to prediction

How the digitalization of rail maintenance is reshaping asset management

Asset management is more than planning and executing maintenance. In accordance with the ISO 55000 standard, it is about systematically managing the entire life cycle of the railway, aimed at an optimal balance between performance, risks, and costs.

Rail4Climate – digitalization as a driver for climate-friendly rail transport

Rail4Climate is an Austrian research and funding programme aimed at specifically increasing capacity and productivity in the rail sector. Initiated by the Climate and Energy Fund and administered by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the programme supports projects that enhance the performance, efficiency, and climate friendliness of the railway system.

Taking the train to the island

The island of Sylt in the North Sea is connected to the mainland via a special rail link that is due to be electrified. The planning is based on a highly precise digital twin of the existing infrastructure.

Networked maintenance for greater track capacity

The railway is an essential pillar of modern mobility. In 2026, however, it is facing a huge challenge: rising demand requires ever-greater availability of the rail network, which in turn places massive pressure on track construction and maintenance. Mechanization has already led to significant productivity increases in track construction and maintenance over recent decades. However, attention is now shifting to a structural conflict of objectives that calls for new, holistic approaches.
