The International Exhibition for Track Technology iaf 2017 will see the launch of the new reference book by Dr. Florian Auer “Rail Infrastructure Management within the European Context”. Volume 1 of the five-part compendium with the title “Best Practice of Sustainable Track Maintenance” lays the foundations for a new and wide-ranging work of reference in the Railway Industry.
The aim of the compendium is to present the interrelations of engineering and economics, law and transport policy in track maintenance in a structured manner for all concerned. Best practice examples are used to support the theoretical principles and explanations. The five-part compendium will cover the different work processes over the entire life cycle of tracks, turnouts and overhead lines, from the design of systems and their construction and maintenance through to their renewal. Infrastructure Management will provide the starting point.
Volume 1 will show the complex relationships in infrastructure management in the railway industry and is specifically targeted at young managers. The reader will gain an insight into the areas of sustainability, the Single European Railway Area, system data and information management, asset maintenance of the existing railway network and its sustainable renewal. A special focus will be on the EU’s “Fourth Railway Package” and the opportunities arising from digitalisation. All this centres around the sustainable development of the railway track.
Volume 2 of the series will focus on the design of the systems and will be published in 2018.
